Vital Signs

“Vital Signs is a national program led by community foundations and coordinated by Community Foundations of Canada that leverages local knowledge to measure the vitality of our communities and support action towards improving our collective quality of life.” 1

In 2013, The County Foundation issued the first ever Vital Signs Report for Prince Edward County which provided a snapshot of PEC and promoted awareness of successes, challenges and opportunities in the community.Based on both quantitative and qualitative data and guided by the Vital Signs Advisory Committee comprising leaders from a broad range of local organizations, the report was a catalyst for development of a collaborative approach to addressing community issues.

The 2013 Advisory Committee prioritized three issue areas for immediate action: Learning, Food Security, and Transportation.  With the leadership and support of The County Foundation, working groups began to define priorities and undertake projects in these three areas.  Moving Forward Together, the Vital Signs 2015 Progress Report, presented updated data and highlighted the accomplishments of the working groups.

As a lead-up to publication of the second full Vital Signs Report in October 2018, a series of Community Conversations held throughout PEC in late 2017 provided a starting point for identifying current local priorities.  The Vital Signs 2018 Report will once again present community knowledge to inspire action on priority issues and ensure that resources are directed where they will have impact.
